Our Story

We’re not just a snack company — we’re a movement rooted in love for our land, our people, and the power of food to create change.

The Snack Shop was born out of a deep passion for adding value to Liberia’s local crops, especially cassava, and turning them into convenient, ready-to-make traditional snacks. We saw a gap — too much of our homegrown produce was going to waste, while communities struggled with unemployment and lack of access to healthy, affordable food. We stepped in with a simple idea: what if we could create snacks that taste like home while building a better future for those who grow them?

Founded by Sharon S. Blah-Poneys — an accountant by profession and an entrepreneur by purpose — The Snack Shop began with small batches of “Kala Mix” and “Gari Mix,” handcrafted and packaged for people who wanted quick, delicious options without compromising culture or nutrition. But our mission goes beyond food.

We exist to empower.

Every bag of our mix supports a network of women cassava farmers who are paid fairly for their produce. We train and employ young people in processing, packaging, and marketing — equipping them with skills and income they can depend on. We’ve committed to reinvesting 40% of our revenue into the communities we serve, building a business model that feeds not just stomachs, but dreams.

What sets us apart?
•We believe in food that’s locally grown, proudly Liberian, and globally loved.
•We believe in building a value chain that works for the farmer, the processor, and the consumer.
•We believe in storytelling — every snack you enjoy carries the spirit of a farmer, a village, and a future made brighter.

Whether you’re rushing to work, sending a care package abroad, or introducing Liberian cuisine to a friend — The Snack Shop is here to serve you flavor, culture, and impact in every bite.
